Propagation Modeling Research Page

Posted on January 5, 2018 Written by Gregory Durgin

Since the beginning, the theory, modeling, and measurement of radio channels has been a cornerstone of the research group (hence the name).  This research page summarizes much of the contributions in the area of propagation modeling.

Active areas of backscatter radio research in the group include:

    • theory and practice of RF channel modeling and measurement
    • backscatter channel modeling
    • self-tuning, large-scale propagation models
    • electromagnetic theory applied to RF modeling
    • measurement and modeling in extreme environments

How to Make a Channel Sounder

Posted on December 26, 2017 Written by Gregory Durgin

Design and Construction of a GHz Sliding Correlator Channel Sounder for Wireless Channel Characterization and Analysis
Ryan Pirkl, PG-TR-050515-RJP,15 May 2005

This is the first channel sounder that Ryan Pirkl built for our research group.  An excellent primer on building a channel sounder, which got put to good use.

ECL Design Guide

Ryan Pirkl, PG-TR-050518-RJP,18 May 2005

A useful primer on emitter-coupled logic for high-speed circuit design.  Produced as an afterthought by Ryan Pirkl who was working on high-bandwidth channel sounding electronics, the guide is still a great introduction to the subject.
