Mohammad Alhassoun Wins Best Paper Award at IEEE RFID 2018

ECE PhD student Mohammad Alhassoun, along with co-authors Michael Varner and Prof. Gregory D. Durgin, has won the Best Paper Award at the IEEE International Conference on RFID 2018. Held from April 10-12 in Orlando, Florida, IEEE RFID 2018 is the world’s premier science and engineering conference for RF identification and related technologies.

Alhassoun’s paper, entitled “Design and Evaluation of a Multi-Modulation Retrodirective RFID Tag”, presented a new type of radio communicator that uses reflected power for communications.  Operating much like a corner reflector in optics, Alhassoun’s microwave device reflects incoming radio power back to where it originated, adding bits of information to the signal in the process. The device will enable many low-powered or energy-harvesting radios to communicate over long distances.

Hiba Murali Wins the ECE Faculty Award!

Congratulations to Hiba Murali, our long-time undergraduate researcher and highly-decorated ORS scholar!  She has won the 2018 ECE Faculty Award, which is given based on the following citation:

This award is given to the electrical or computer engineering student who, in the opinion of the ECE faculty, has done the most to improve the educational environment within ECE or Georgia Tech and has contributed significantly to both student welfare and student-faculty interactions. This award consists of a $250 check and a plaque.

Upcoming IEEE RFID 2018

IEEE RFID 2018 in Orlando, FL will be held 10-12 April 2108.  Co-located with the largest trade-show in the RFID industry, RFID Journal LIVE! we have a number of GTPG researchers presenting this year.  Mohammad Alhassoun, Qian Yang, and Michael Varner are presenting papers as part of the main technical program.  Cheng Qi and the ORS team of Evan Shi, EriK Centeno, and Hiba Murali are presenting at the poster session.  Alumnus Brian Degnan is also presenting a tutorial on RFID chip design.  Hope to see you in Orlando!
