Improved Channel Coding for Next-Generation RFID

Gregory D. Durgin, Brian P. Degnan
IEEE Journal of Radio Frequency Identification

Can we channel code an RFID signal with higher throughput than the Gen2 spec’s FM0?  This paper presents several schemes for outperforming current schemes without penalizing cost, complexity, performance, or power consumption.

Simontool: Simulation Support for the Simon Cipher

Brian Degnan, Gregory Durgin
IEEE Journal of Radio Frequency Identification

This recent journal article describes a suite of tools that can be used to simulate the ultra-low-powered Simon cipher for applications such as RFID.  The code is available on www.simon.gatech.edu.

Realizing ReMoRa (Reflection of Modulated Radio) Ambient Scatter Communication Links with Perfect Pulses

Michael A. Varner, Rajib Bhattacharjea, Gregory D. Durgin
IEEE Journal of Radio Frequency Identification

This work introduces the ReMoRa (Reflection of Modulated Radio) concept using perfect pulses.  The signaling scheme is a new method to squeeze information onto existing airwaves using an ultra-low-power re-scattering sensor.

Signal Constellations of a Retrodirective Array Phase Modulator

Gregory A. Koo, MS Thesis 5 April 2011

Greg Koo’s classic MS thesis on the use of retrodirective array phase modulator (RAPM) for microwave backscatter communications.  Co-invented with Albert Lu, this method of RF signal transmission has been dubbed “Koo-Lu” modulation by our researchers.
