In a bid to stay ahead of the game, the GTPG has begun recruiting its newest prospective member to Georgia Tech. Shortly after he was born on Sunday, July 15, 2018, Elliot Bernard Durgin was given several articles GT-related clothing and some pro-GT pamphlets. Projected to be in the Georgia Tech graduating class of 2040, Elliot and his 3 doting older sisters are planning to visit campus multiple times over the next two decades. The siblings are already pre-pre-enrolled in a number of GT summer camps. We look forward to seeing you around the lab!
Where the Bits Started
All indications are that Mohammad Alhassoun, a senior PhD candidate in the GTPG, is really enjoying his internship with Bell Labs this summer. We were recently sent these photos of Claude Shannon’s old office. Watch out, Mohammad! If you keep having original ideas, they might commemorate your office here one day.
Multi-Antenna Signaling Scheme: Patent by GT
From the Georgia Tech Research Corporation, a nice summary of one of our lab’s patents, co-authored by Yenpao “Albert Lu” and Gregory Koo:
Inventors at Georgia Tech have developed techniques that can extend the range and the potential data rate of low-power communication. These techniques use multiple antennas at the transmitter, receiver, and RF tag and will soon allow the exchange of low data rates over long distances. The techniques have the capability to allow RF tags to return high powered signals with higher data rates back to a reader unit. This allows for the sweeping of an RF waveform through space so that passive radio devices may more effectively harvest energy and boost the collection of microwave power by an energy-harvesting RF tag using multiple antennas. Collectively, these techniques work together to enhance the range and reliability of RF tags.
